For A Good Time Just Add Water!
Water Water Everywhere

What’s more refreshing on a hot summer day than a good dunk, slide or splash in the water? You and your family can enjoy an entire day of wet and wild fun at a local water park, like SplashDown Beach, Carousel Water and Fun Park or Zoom Flume. Each of them is easily reached within the Hudson Valley area.

Splash Down to Adventure
SplashDown Beach is located in nearby Fishkill on Old Route 9 West. Owner Steven Turk is excited about the fact that SplashDown has some added attractions this year. "We’re developing a pirate theme, so our new area is aptly called Pirate’s Plunge," he said. This water-filled adventure includes a three-person, 400-plus-foot raft ride down a mini-river that ends in a splash pool. Also new is a 200-foot drop slide into a splash pool.

To further step up the excitement, Turk suggests trying the Half-Pipe, a three-story drop ride. True lovers of exhilarating water slide experiences will likely enjoy the three body slides at SplashDown that don’t require a raft.

G eared to young children is Buccaneer Bay. Filled with appealing structures, slides and unique water fountains, this play area is a safe and stimulating environment for young tots.

For the less adventurous or for those looking to slow things down a bit, there are the Wave Pool with its gentle water and the Lazy River ride in a relaxing tube.

Located next to the Wave Pool is a giant beach with sand and umbrellas. "It’s a calm setting that’s as close to the beach as you’re going to get without going to the beach," Turk remarks.
There is also a food service pavilion – in addition to bumper cars and an arcade.

SplashDown Beach is open from the end of May through October. Call 845-897-9600 or visit www.splashdownbeach.com for further information.

Zoom off to Fun
With names like Black Vortex, Mighty Anaconda and Giant Lagoon, you know these water rides will offer lots of thrills. These and others can be found at Zoom Flume in East Durham, the largest water park in the Catskills situated in a natural setting.

You will find giant water slides that wind bathers around 300 feet to splash down in a canyon below, and a raft ride over rapids that stretch the length of a 600-foot chute. The Black Vortex twists and turns in total darkness until splash down.

Race enthusists will enjoy the challenge of the Grand Prix Splashway and Thrill Hill rides. For the younger set Pelican Pond offers wet and wonderful fun.

Refreshments can be reached by crossing over the Pedestrian Bridge, located high above the canyon, to a cliff-side restaurant with a panoramic view of the park.

Zoom Flume is open from June 16 through Labor Day.

Take the Plunge to Enjoyment
Touted as "family fun at a family price," Carousel Water and Fun Park, located in Scranton Pennsylvania.

Carousel features two large water slides, a wading pool and bumper boats. Play time under fountains and on gentle water slides shaped like a frog’s tongue and a boot is just what the tots need.

Other activities that are included in the single-price admission include go-kart rides and mini-golf for pros or beginners are offered. Motorized Kiddie Kars can be driven by three to eight-year-olds. There are also softball and hardball batting cages. The arcade includes skee-ball, basketball, air hockey, video games. Carousel has a snack bar but if you prefer to bring your own, a picnic area is open to everyone.

The park is open daily from 11 a.m., Memorial Day through Labor Day. Call 570-729-7532 or visit www.carousel-park.com for details.
